Varnish and lamination are two types of surfaces, usually they are the last step in the printing, to protect image before printing.

Understand the Difference

Varnish

Aqueous varnish is one of the most common varnish in our daily life. This is a clear liquid paint, usually used to seal and protect ink on printed surfaces.

Varnish have two kinds divided into glossy and matte and can be applied to the entire label (flood varnish) or only to certain sections of the label (spot coating) not only to create interesting visual effects, but also have abrasion and chemical resistance.

Lamination

Lamination is a thin polypropylene film, in layman's terms; this is a clear plasticization protection film and can provide the thickest protective layer. It suitable for labels exposed to moisture, abrasion and light.

The common styles are divided into glossy and matte, gloss lamination is very shiny, while matte lamination is very smooth, such as gift box should always use a lamination for their covers to prevent any damage the printed surface and lose the sense of luxury.
